Residential Locksmith

Locked out, moving in, or just want to feel safer at home? We handle the locks so you can rest easy: fast, friendly, and without the upsell.

What we handle

Your home is where it all matters most. Since 1911 we’ve helped Sioux Falls families keep their doors secure, from a quick rekey after closing on a new house to a full set of fresh deadbolts. We’ll walk you through what actually makes a difference and skip whatever you don’t need.

New keys for a new house, a lock that’s grown stubborn with age, a teenager who keeps losing theirs. Whatever the reason, there’s no job too small. And if you’re locked out right now, we’ll come get you back in.

Rekey or replace?

Most of the time you don’t need new locks, you need new keys. Rekeying swaps the pins inside your existing lock so the old keys stop working, and it costs a fraction of new hardware. If a lock is worn out, damaged, or you’re ready for an upgrade, replacing makes more sense. We’ll tell you which one your doors actually need. Our rekey or replace guide walks through it in more detail.

Job Typical range
Rekey (per cylinder) $15 to $50
Rekey whole house to one key $50 to $150
Replace a lock (hardware and labor) $80 to $300+

Prices are general ranges and can vary based on lock type, hardware condition, and number of doors.

Just bought a house? Start here.

When you close on a home, you have no idea how many keys are floating around. Previous owners, their family, realtors, contractors, the neighbor who watched the cat. New construction is no different, since builders and their crews often work off construction keys right up until handoff. Rekeying every exterior door to one new key is the fastest, cheapest way to know exactly who can get in. We do it for new homeowners all over Sioux Falls, Brandon, Harrisburg, and Tea.

Older homes, older hardware

Sioux Falls has plenty of older homes with original locks and doors that have settled over the decades. A deadbolt you have to lift and shove to latch usually isn’t a lock problem. It’s a door alignment problem, and it’s often a quick fix. We’d rather adjust a strike plate than sell you a lock you don’t need.

Smart locks and keypads

Keypad and smart locks are handy for kids, dog walkers, and rentals. We’ll help you pick one that fits your door and holds up to a South Dakota winter, install it, and make sure you still have a reliable key backup.

Good to know

Common questions

How much does it cost to rekey a house? +
It depends on how many doors and what kind of locks you have, but a whole-house rekey to one key typically runs $50 to $150, and a single cylinder $15 to $50. Prices vary with lock type and hardware condition, so call 605-334-5411 for a real number before we come out.
Should I rekey my locks after buying a house? +
Yes. There's no way to know how many keys the previous owners, contractors, or agents handed out. Rekeying every exterior door is the cheapest way to make sure only your keys work, and it's best done before your first night in the house.
Can you make all my doors work with one key? +
Usually. Most standard residential locks from the same brand share a keyway and can be rekeyed to one key. If yours don't match, we can swap a cylinder or two so one key runs the whole house.
Can every lock be rekeyed? +
Most standard deadbolts and knobs can. Some smart locks, high-security cylinders, and badly worn hardware can't, and when that's the case we'll tell you straight and give you replacement options.
Can you install a smart lock I already bought? +
Yes. Tell us the model and we'll install it, make sure the door latches cleanly, and get it set up.
